Women Protest Drinking Water Shortage in Parvathipuram Manyam

Visakhapatnam: Women from BC Colony at Komarada Mandal headquarters in Parvathipuram Manyam district staged a protest on Friday, carrying empty containers and demanding restoration of drinking water supply to the area.
Residents said the colony, located about 100 meters from the local secretariat, has been facing inadequate water supply for nearly a year despite the laying of pipelines under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
Sujatha Narayanamma, who led the protest, alleged that water was supplied through JJM approved pipelines for only two months before the service was cut off. He said residents, especially women, made various representations to the authorities, but the issue remained unresolved.
CPM leader Kolli Sambasiva Rao claimed that repeated complaints to MPDO and secretariat staff failed to produce a permanent solution. According to him, the water supply is intermittently restored and often remains available for only a day before being cut off again.
Protesters demanded replacement of old pipelines to ensure regular supply of drinking water to the colony.
Sujatha Narayanamma also claimed that clogging of drains has led to stagnation of water in the area, which creates mosquito breeding grounds and increases the risk of diseases. She demanded immediate cleaning of the drains and warned that residents would intensify their agitation if the issues were not addressed.
Protesters called on authorities to take urgent steps to restore drinking water supply and improve sanitation facilities in the colony.
