One person died and many people were injured in a shooting attack at a fan zone in San Jose, California. Officers are investigating a shooting in the area of N. Market St and W. Santa Clara St. Another victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, San Jose Police said. Police added that the incident was considered a “murder”.
The full statement from the police department reads: “Units are currently investigating a shooting in the area of N Market St and W Santa Clara St. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. This incident is being investigated as a homicide. Many surrounding streets are closed in the area. Please avoid the area and use alternative routes.”
The attack took place in San Pedro Square, one of the few places in the San Francisco Bay Area where crowds gather to watch World Cup matches on big screens. There is a heavy police presence in the area and many roads are closed.
