World Cup 2026: Reece James doubtful for Mexico tie but Jarell Quansah fit again

Reece James missed England’s final training session ahead of their World Cup last-16 tie with Mexico but Jarrell Quansah could be re-selected.
Right-back James has missed England’s last two matches due to a hamstring injury sustained in the final stages of the goalless draw with Ghana.
The 26-year-old Chelsea defender has yet to fully train with the squad since his injury and was the only player absent from Mexico City on Saturday.
The Football Association told BBC Sport that James follows his own individual program away from the training ground.
But there was also positive news for Quansah, who has returned to full training and will be fit to face Mexico on Monday (01:00 BST).
Quansah, who can play in the centre-back and full-back positions, suffered a hamstring injury in the draw against Panama, but his return to fitness eased Thomas Tuchel’s concerns about the right-back.
Djed Spence was selected as right-back for the win against DR Congo but midfielder Declan Rice finished the match in that position.
The Arsenal midfielder has a hamstring problem but is expected to be ready for the match at the Azteca Stadium.
