WWE stars share what WrestleMania means to them personally and professionally

LAS VEGAS – WrestleMania is one of the biggest shows in sports.
This is WWE’s flagship event, combining the excitement of the Super Bowl with the fierce action of combat sports. While fans hold out hope that one of their favorite stars will make a big comeback or surprise appearance, the company’s biggest feuds will come to an end.
For professional wrestlers, this event has a little more meaning. It’s the culmination of everything they’ve worked for and a chance to showcase their talents to the thousands of spectators in the stadium and the millions watching at home.

When you look around this room you can see that it brings many people together. There is so much happening. Many people can come and meet their favorite wrestler. And that’s what it’s all about for me. No matter what’s going on in your life, wrestling can take it all away and be a little more personal about it. It’s great for me.
Alex Shelley
“A lot of people who don’t watch professional wrestling are going to watch WrestleMania. I feel like this is the Mecca to the point where it’s equivalent to the Super Bowl. People who are a little bit on the sidelines, who have only heard of professional wrestling, are going to watch this event. Our performers and athletes in this company, the people we work with, they go out there and they really give everything they have to get these people.”
Bayley
“To me, as a kid, WrestleMania always felt like it was on another planet because of the spectacle on stage, the fireworks, the people dressed up; not just the wrestlers and the performers, but also the people in the crowd. They act like they’re going to prom or a 50th wedding anniversary. They’ve been planning all year long, dressing and preparing for it. And it just seems like it’s another day. It’s like when they’re in the stadium, everyone that’s there, like nothing else matters in the world, like nothing else outside of the stadium.” The thing doesn’t matter except what’s there, and it’s just you and now 80,000, 90,000 people experiencing it together.

“And to me, that’s a very special feeling that’s hard to explain unless you’ve been there. Even when you’re watching it on TV, it’s like you want to be there. To me, it’s special because my family and my friends don’t come to everything. They don’t get to come to all the games as much as they want, or WrestleMania is just an excuse for them to leave the state, leave their homes, and come there all together, but it’s just one of those rare times when everybody gets together. So I believe it’s the same for fans. They might have a group of friends that they only see once a year, and that’s it.” You might be at WrestleMania, or you might just see your crazy uncle at WrestleMania. It just brings your family and friends together and it’s a very special night…

“I think if everyone is on the same wavelength, this is the culmination of everything they’ve worked for all year long. This is the greatest show in professional wrestling. Everyone who puts in the effort makes the show that much bigger. This is a showman. It’s the greatest thing in sports entertainment.”

“This is our Super Bowl. All of our stories are coming to an end, but at the same time new stories are taking shape because we have Raw on Monday, which is the biggest Raw of the year after WrestleMania because the stories come out of ‘Mania. That’s what it’s all about. Rhea and I’s story started at Elimination Chamber around February and it just came out of nowhere. That’s what it’s all about. The biggest matches of the year, the biggest entrances of the season. the biggest nights of entertainment of the year. But you see a lot of emotion and excitement and that’s what people are talking about.” It makes us so connected and that’s why we have so many fans who keep coming back year after year.

“WrestleMania is the culmination of all the hard work all year long leading up to the moment when you go out there and show everyone who you are and what you’re made of, and I think it’s a great testament to the wrestlers themselves getting to ‘Mania because it’s like I finally got to do what I’ve wanted to do my whole life. Everybody wants to wrestle at WrestleMania. To be able to fulfill a dream. It’s a feeling that you’ve had since you were a kid, if you haven’t experienced it, I don’t know, it’s an otherworldly feeling.”

“It feels like every year for the first time, all the wrestlers are coming together for one event. So even if you can’t afford tickets to go to WrestleMania, there are all these incredible independent shows that you can see that week, and everyone just enjoys wrestling together. Super Bowl wrestling is honestly the best way to put it. The way I fell in love with wrestling, honestly, was the smaller shows. Honestly, that’s really what it was. When I was a kid, I wasn’t allowed to watch wrestling, so that’s what allowed me to connect with the performers. “And then I realized how fun WWE was, but honestly it was the independent shows that got me hooked.”

“I’ve heard some fans talk about what WrestleMania means to them because I didn’t grow up watching wrestling, I was never a real fan, but during meet and greets I heard some fans say things like, ‘I saved up all year for this moment,’ ‘I saved up so I could buy this product so we can go to the show and meet you,’ and it’s really cool to see how passionate people are. Especially, It’s a full-time job. So it’s kind of like our end-of-year celebration, but it doesn’t stop after that. It’s kind of a reset, though.” “It’s a way for us to put everything aside and just leave it all there for one night.”

“This is the Super Bowl of professional wrestling. It’s the culmination of everything you do throughout the year. All the hard work. All the training.
