Yankees vs Mets rivalry week pick with Carlos Rodon back on the mound

It’s rivalry week in baseball, and I can’t say I fully understand what that’s like for some of these teams. For example, the Toronto Blue Jays play the Detroit Tigers. Is it because they are close? Or did they assign them the Tigers because Canada was too good to have a real opponent?
Who knows? Either way, we have a matchup in New York and I think we’ll get a good price for one of the teams today.

The New York Yankees are among the best teams in baseball right now, and there isn’t much reason to believe that will change throughout the year. They have a 28-17 record on the season but have some road issues as they are only 14-11 away from home.

If the Yankees keep up this pace, they aim to become a 100-win club. While that doesn’t guarantee anything, it should put them out there as a likely home run for much of the postseason.
I’m sure there will be slumps and problems along the way, but so far things have gone well and they are aiming to go from strength to strength with guys like today’s starters coming back to the club. Carlos Rodon will hit the hill today and try to improve on his shaky first ride. In his last start against the Brewers, he pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two hits, three earned runs and five walks.
Walks are my biggest concern but maybe it was just working out his mechanics. Mets hitters didn’t have much success against Rodon, hitting just .215 in 65 at-bats.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but this was supposed to be a big year for the New York Mets. As an objective observer, I’ll give them credit for at least trying. There are many major league clubs that make no effort.
The problem is that there doesn’t seem to be any reward in throwing money at players, like it does with, say, the Dodgers. The team is 18-26 on the season, with exactly half of its wins and losses coming at home. Their hitting is hard, with a batting average of just .225, and they rank in the bottom quarter of the league in home runs.

Their pitching was reliable but one of their starters was injured. What’s crazy to me is that there aren’t any names in the Mets’ pitching that you can actually recognize, other than Freddy Peralta. But they are making good debuts. Hitting doesn’t get the job done.
There will be a bullpen for the club on Saturday with Huascar Brazoban taking over to open the mound. The Mets have one of the best fields in the league, but I’m not about to run to the window to cheer them on.

Saturday has a chance to be an ugly day for the Mets. Bullpen games can be good, and they have become increasingly popular over the years. I think this game will likely fall under the 8.5 runs posted due to the Mets being able to play out the matchups in some way. I also think Rodon is talented and the Yankees have a good bullpen.

I’m not too confident in either game, so I’m taking a unit and dividing it by the Yankees winning the game. And the other half of one unit will be at the bottom. The Yankees are a better club with more consistent pitching, and I think pitching should have an overall advantage.
