The 2026 report, from an online sample of more than 2000 Australian news consumers, shows the expanding presence of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in the news ecosystem; almost one in 10 (9 percent) now use AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to access or receive news; this trend is the fastest growing among under-25s (16 percent, up four points by 2025).
