The New York Giants’ special team is having a rough night in Foxborough, as kicker Younghoe Koo made the strangest first field goal attempt in a “Monday Night Football” matchup with the New England Patriots.
After tight end Theo Johnson failed to score a touchdown, the Giants were looking to make it a seven-point game with a 47-yard field goal from Koo, who had kicked for New York the last three games.
However, for some reason, Koo put his foot on the grass when he took his kick and remained lame without making contact with the football.

It appears that Koo’s left foot was too close to the ball, which may have thrown it off. But he couldn’t complete the kick, and catcher and punter Jamie Gillan was drilled by multiple Patriots tackles, technically a sack on the stat sheet.

The game featured a major momentum shift after a 17–0 lead, with the Giants getting a desperately needed stop after a touchdown drive. Patriots won the match 33-15.
The huge deficit was due to another special teams error for the Giants, but Marcus Jones was an impressive Patriots representative as he ran 94 yards behind Gillan for the first touchdown of the game.

And things got even worse for New York when the Patriots made it 24-7 thanks to a perfect ball from Drake Maye to Kyle Williams; Giants returner Gunner Olszewski was drilled by Christian Elliss on a kick return.
He fumbled the football after helmet-to-helmet contact and the Patriots recovered. They would eventually add three more points to the board.
New York entered this prime time matchup with a season in stark contrast to the Patriots, who had won their last nine games. The Giants have lost six straight games, and last week’s overtime loss to the Detroit Lions officially eliminated them from playoff contention.

But there was some hope as rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was out of the concussion protocol. But special teams unfortunately broke the momentum for the Giants, who entered the locker room in Foxborough with a 30-7 lead.
