I will show you a part of the counter-demonstrations in Kiev this morning. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his strange decision to shoot Mykhailo Fedorov, Secretary of Defence.
Maybe 1000 people, more than 1000 people are already here under the summer sun right below Zelensky’s presidential office and I’m talking to them about this decision.
They basically say they are angry, confused. They say that Fedorov mainly represents openness, innovation and transparency, that he was very successful, and that those who got rid of him were the old forces, the Soviet-style forces, and this is essentially about two things.
One is a conflict Oleksandr Syrskyi, They claim that the commander-in-chief or his generals are involved in various corruption schemes. People are now saying leave Syrskyi out, keep Fedorov away.
And the other is merely personal rivalry; That Fedorov is very popular. He is 35 years young and is seen by some here as a future presidential leader. And Zelensky got rid of it for really obvious political reasons. At least that’s the criticism here.
On it there are words “for what?”, “Syrskyi out”, etc. There are posters and cardboard banners that say:
There is a young crowd here. This is only the second major demonstration since the large-scale invasion of Zelensky right on his doorstep.
And one last thing: Many people say this is a shame for Starmer. and if Starmer wants to become NATO secretary general in the future, he needs to discuss the Fedovor issue with Zelenskyy.
We’ll have to see if this is the case.

Fedorov’s six-month tenure coincided with a dramatic improvement in Ukraine’s position on the battlefield. It’s a shame that Kiev has repeatedly hit Russian oil refineries with long-range drones Vladimir Putin and creating fuel shortages across the country.
35-year-old Fedorov listed his achievements in his farewell message. These included disabling Starlink for Russian troops and procuring more drones that would be used to destroy “enemy logistics” and isolate occupied Crimea. He said he had “radically improved” the procurement system, saving “billions of dollars” in the state budget.
On the day of departure, the minister announced that the Ukrainian army had successfully tested a ballistic missile. “We fundamentally revised the technical requirements and achieved maximum accuracy. We reduced the cost by 30%. Ukraine will enter a new league,he said.
It is thought that the sacking will overshadow Keir Starmer’s visit to Kyiv. The British prime minister, who will step down this week, arrived on Thursday to celebrate the country’s support for Ukraine during his time as prime minister.
Morning opening: Zelenskyy’s move to sack popular defense minister sparks protests as Starmer makes final visit

Volodymyr Zelenskyy faced public anger this morning over his decision to sack Ukraine’s popular defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov as he welcomed Britain’s outgoing prime minister Keir Starmer to Kiev.
Ukrainian president took action Dismissing Fedorov despite calls from foreign partners and civil society for him to keep his jobAs part of a sweeping government reshuffle that also saw Yulia Svyrydenko leave the post of prime minister.
Timing makes it a bit awkward for Starmer Someone who is about to finish his legacy tour and wants to highlight Britain’s support for Ukraine during his time as prime minister.
But a day after Zelenskyy welcomed the EU’s offer, he will be keen to point to it as a clear sign of continued international support. Ursula von der Leyen and several national leaders from southeastern Europe.
I will also pay attention Emmanuel Macron’s visit to France’s historic Fontainebleau His stay in the forest after days of fierce fires and his later relationship with Germany Friedrich Merz.
No doubt we will have many updates for you from Kyiv and beyond.
