$15 billion investment: Google to kick off data centre project on April 28

The foundation stone of the 1 GW capacity Google data center center will be held in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and senior executives of the company, including Thomas Kurian. The mega project, which will be set up with an investment of $15 billion, making it the largest single foreign direct investment in India, will consist of three data center campuses at Adavivaram village (Visakhapatnam district), Tarluvada village (Visakhapatnam district) and Rambilli (Anakapalli district) near Visakhapatnam. The land was handed over to Google subsidiary Raiden Infotech India Private Limited, which is executing the project. According to sources, the official kick-off will be held at Tarluvada or Rambilli ground. “The state government has allotted 174.8 acres of land in Rambilli, 160 acres in Adavivaram and Mudasarlova and 266.6 acres in Tarluvada,” a senior official, requesting anonymity, told ET.

Three data centers with a total capacity of 1 GW are expected to be commissioned in July 2028. The three high-end data centers will require the installation and landing of three high-capacity submarine cables, dedicated cable landing stations, and high-capacity metro fiber lines and telecommunications infrastructure. The state government and Google had signed the MoU in New Delhi on October 14. In six months, the project will officially start on April 28. Raiden has partnered with Adani Infra (India) Limited to set up the data center hub. On the request of Raiden Infotech India, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) approved allotment of 601.4 acres of land for the center to Adani Infra Limited. Three Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) were created, all owned by Adani Infra Limited. Land at three locations has been allotted to Vizag Hyperscale Data Center Park Limited (160 acres at Adavivaram and Mudasarlova), Vizag Mega Data Center Park Limited (266.6 acres at Tarluvada) and Vizag Rambilli Data Center Park Limited (174.8 acres at Rambilli).

So far, Google and its subsidiaries have data centers spread across 29 geographic locations in 11 countries (United States, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Ireland, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Belgium and Chile). The data center cluster in Visakhapatnam is expected to be the largest in Asia.
