800 Booked for Drunken Driving During Special Checks

Hyderabad: The city and Cyberabad traffic police fined more than 800 drivers for drunken driving during special checks over the weekend.
Hyderabad traffic police penalized 403 drivers for drunk driving; eight of them had BAC levels above 300, and against a ceiling of 30 micrograms of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, D. Joel Davis, a joint commissioner of the city traffic police, confirmed that there would be zero tolerance for drunk driving.
Cyberabad traffic police identified 409 offenders; Miyapur topped the list with 81 cases, followed by Chevella (44) and Shamshabad (34). The majority of offenders were two-wheeler drivers, and more than a third of drunk drivers were in the 31-40 age group.
Police said that inspection efforts will continue across Cyberabad to prevent drunk driving and traffic accidents. Controls would be intensified during the holiday season and weekend periods.
