Suresh Gopi Suggests Probe Against Actors An Attempt to Divert Focus from Sabarimala Issue

Palakkad (Kerala): Union Minister Suresh Gopi on Friday alleged that the investigation into film personalities was an attempt to divert attention from the gold plating controversy at Sabarimala.
Answering questions during a public interaction at Akathethara in Palakkad, Gopi said, “The two film actors were brought before the people of Kerala to be tried for downplaying the Sabarimala gold issue.”
However, he did not name the actors or the case. “The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are intensifying their investigations. As a Union minister, I should not comment further,” he said.
Gopi added that such incidents are not unusual. “Whenever an incident emerges that would lead the government to crime, there is a tendency to tarnish bright personalities through police intervention. There will be more such stories,” he said.
The actor-turned-politician had been organizing similar engagement programs across the state for the past month. Some of his earlier comments, including those regarding the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to be established in Alappuzha, had come under sharp political criticism.
Currently, actors Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Amith Chakalakkal are under the scanner of the Customs and Emergency Service in connection with the alleged smuggling of luxury cars from Bhutan.
