Diwali is timeless reminder of light’s victory over darkness: Trump wishes Americans celebrating Diwali

“Today, I send my best wishes to every American celebrating Diwali, the ‘Festival of Lights,'” he said in a statement.
“For many Americans, Diwali is a timeless reminder of the triumph of light over darkness. It is also a time to bring families and friends together to celebrate community, draw strength from hope, and embrace an enduring spirit of renewal,” the US president said.
“As millions of citizens light diyas and lanterns, we rejoice in the fact that good will always triumph over evil. May this celebration bring lasting peace, prosperity, hope and peace to every American who celebrates Diwali,” Trump said.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also expressed his warm wishes to those celebrating the festival for a “peaceful and joyful” Diwali.
“On behalf of the State Department, I extend warm wishes to the many communities in the United States and around the world celebrating the Diwali festival of lights,” Rubio said in a statement. “During this time, observers light up diyas or lamps that represent the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. I wish a peaceful and joyful Diwali to all who celebrate.” Kash Patel, the Indian-American chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), also expressed his congratulations on the auspicious Eid.
“Happy Diwali as we celebrate the Festival of Lights around the world as the triumph of good over evil,” Patel, who became the first Indian American to lead the FBI earlier this year, wrote in a post on X.
Ohio Governor candidate and Republican politician Vivek Ramaswamy also shared his Diwali wishes. He became the youngest presidential candidate in the 2024 Republican primaries.
“Happy Diwali! May light triumph over darkness,” Ramaswamy said.
Zohran Mamdani, New York City’s leading mayoral candidate and son of filmmaker Mira Nair, also used X to convey Diwali greetings.
“Shubh Deepavali! Wishing everyone a very happy Diwali. Families across our city light diyas and celebrate the victory of light over darkness, hope over despair. New York shines brighter tonight, thanks to the people who bring its lights and traditions into their homes,” Mamdani wrote.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott hosted Diwali celebrations at the Governor’s Mansion. This is a long-standing, beloved tradition that brings the Indian-American community together each year to celebrate the festival of lights. Showcasing the inclusive spirit of the state and the vibrant presence of the Indian-American community in various areas, this celebration has become an annual tradition in Texas.
The Sunday celebration at the mansion was attended by India’s Consul General in Houston DC Manjunath, prominent members of the Indian-American community and elected officials.
