Velankanni priest says Basilica was not informed about TVK chief Vijay’s plan to visit shrine on May 2

The management of Our Lady of Good Health Basilica expressed concern over the spread of misinformation regarding prayers at the shrine and criticized Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadres for raising slogans on church premises with party names and the name of the party leader. He said the party had not expressed any regret regarding the incident that took place on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, May 3, parish priest Rev. Fr. Arputharaj said that on May 2, reports were doing the rounds that TVK leader Vijay would visit the Velankanni shrine around 5 am. However, the church administration did not receive any official information.
