New York Mayor Election: Zohran Mamdani became the first Muslim mayor of New York City and attracted great attention. The celebratory moment was further enhanced with the song ‘Dhoom Machale’ from the Bollywood movie ‘Dhoom’ playing in the background and the newly elected Mayor took to the stage to address his supporters after his victory was announced. Her Bollywood style debut sent the internet into a frenzy.

Mamdani also made history by becoming the youngest person to win a mayoral election in a century.

The Democratic socialist defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa on the strength of her progressive agenda, signaling both a generational and symbolic shift in New York politics.

Addressing his supporters at the victory party, Mamdani said, “My friends, we have brought down a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo the best in his private life, but let this be the last time I mention his name tonight as he turns a new page to a policy that has abandoned the majority and answered only to the minority.”

Crowds at Mamdani’s campaign headquarters in Brooklyn celebrated the historic result, cheering as the results came in.

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer hailed the results as a broader rejection of the Trump agenda.

He said: “The results of tonight are a rejection of the Trump agenda. The cruelty, chaos and greed that define MAGA radicalism and lead to skyrocketing costs have been unequivocally rejected by the American people. If Republicans want to continue to blindly follow Donald Trump into the abyss of chaos, so be it. The rest of America moves forward.”

While attention remained on New York, election results continued to arrive across the United States. The Miami mayoral race in Florida went to a second round after no candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes.

US President Donald Trump, in contrast, reacted to the results of Truth Social and attributed the Republican losses to absentee voting and ongoing shutdown problems.

“The two reasons Republicans lost the election tonight were because Trump wasn’t on the ballot and because he was shut down,” he shared.

Mamdani is the youngest and first Muslim and South Asian immigrant mayor, and her victory is a defining moment for the city’s future.
