And pure joy.
“This is so emotional, man,” McDonald said at the time of the move. “I know I’m meant to be here. I’m so lucky. I’m so grateful. I’m so emotional about where I’m from. It’s a blessing.”
McDonald was from Suwanee, Georgia, and his neighborhood was not what most would describe as rough or poor; He wasn’t wealthy either, but he was far from it.

McDonald is also generally described as coming from a stable, supportive family. His family was actively involved in the recruiting process, which led him to Ohio State.
Several NFL evaluators told OutKick before the draft that he was a high-character and disciplined prospect.
But still, the reality for McDonald is that he went from unlikable to the second round of the NFL draft. This made him emotional.
And then it moved us because he brought it to national television.
And as we watch these athletes move toward notoriety, accolades, and yes, riches, that’s where we sometimes forget that this journey comes with a price.
This can be a journey filled with hard work and setbacks, as well as success and rewards. Either way, it finalizes costs.
