Boebert yells at Republicans on House floor after censure of Democrat fails
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) on Tuesday night, House Del. He shouted and waved his finger at his Republican colleagues in the House after they rejected a resolution to censure Stacey Plaskett (DV.I.) with the help of a handful of Republicans.
Resolution to censure Plaskett and remove him from the House Intelligence Committee over recently released documents showing he consulted jeffrey epstein It failed at the 2019 hearing by a vote of 209-214-3.
Three Republicans — Reps. Don Bacon (Neb.), Lance Gooden (Texas) and David Joyce (Ohio) — voted “no” along with all Democrats. Three other Republicans also voted present: Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-Y), Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.) and Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.).
Boebert is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, which supported the Plaskett resolution.
Boebert’s exact words were not clearly audible in the House press gallery or on recordings after the vote failed, but Boebert shouted loudly and wagged her finger at other Republicans.
At one point, Boebert walked up to Mills and loudly pointed at her as well.
Had Plaskett’s censure resolution been successful, Democrats were prepared to vote to censure Mills. Last month, a Florida district judge issued a restraining order requested by an ex-girlfriend who accused Mills of harassing her and threatening to release private photos of her after their breakup earlier this year. Mills denied some of the accusations.
But just as other attempts at censorship of Democrats have failed, Democrats on Tuesday refused to pursue censorship of Mills.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) launched a parliamentary inquiry to express her displeasure with the situation.
“I was wondering if the Speaker of the House of Representatives could explain why leadership on both sides, Democrat and Republican, cut backroom deals in the House to cover up public corruption for both Republican and Democratic members of Congress,” Luna said.
Boebert cheered in approval and shouted: “Get it girl.”
The President said Luna had not announced a proper parliamentary inquiry.
“Thank you very much, but I think the American people know what happened tonight,” Luna said.
Asked if she hoped to see a vote on Mills’ censure resolution, Luna told The Hill: “I think everything deserves a vote, and I don’t have double standards on fairness.”
Another member who had hoped to see Mills censored told The Hill that Boebert was disappointed that the Florida congresswoman would not be censored. Boebert’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
