Three men arrested for ‘harassing’, ‘threatening’ politicians

Australian Federal Police arrested three men last week for “harassing or threatening” federal politicians.

One of the men, a 30-year-old from Sydney, was arrested on Thursday and charged with using a transport service to harass an MP who was criticizing a recent neo-Nazi march.

“We allege the man shared a threatening message on an encrypted online platform encouraging harassment and hatred towards this MP,” AFP Acting Deputy Commissioner Matthew Gale told reporters.

“We allege the message was sent after the MP condemned a national socialist network protest in Sydney earlier this month.

“This man will appear in Sydney court later today.”

In a separate case, another NSW man was “served with a court appearance notice for allegedly making online threats to a high-ranking Australian dignitary”.

“We will allege that the man used an online website called Paul to make threatening and abusive comments towards the high-ranking official,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Gale said.

“He will appear in court in January 2026.”

The third man, a 32-year-old from Victoria, was arrested Friday morning after federal officers executed a search warrant.

The man was also accused of using the transport service to harass a federal MP.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Gale said: “These three incidents are examples of the difficulties we face in combating those who want to harm our social cohesion.”
