A married Irish woman could face up to 18 months in prison after being accused of groping a man nearly 20 years her junior. According to reports, the 38-year-old woman allegedly touched a Swedish man’s genitals at the spa of a four-star hotel in the Spanish party resort of Magaluf.

The woman, whose name has not been released and lives in County Cork, was 37 at the time of the alleged incident and the man was 18. The woman was taken to court and told that she would face 18 months in prison if found guilty. He was released on bail by the investigating judge.

The alleged sexual assault is said to have occurred around 6pm on June 3 at the Hotel Martinique.

The three-page indictment prepared by prosecutors states that the woman sat next to the man in the Turkish steam bath and “in a lustful spirit, taking advantage of the fact that no one was there and against the man’s will, placed her hands on the man’s genitals and caressed them until the man said ‘No, no, no’ and left.”

In addition to the prison sentence, prosecutors also reportedly asked that the woman be banned from working for minors for two years longer than the prison sentence imposed and pay court costs if convicted.

They also want her to pay £440 compensation to her male accuser.

In previous reports, it was claimed that the woman was with her husband when he was arrested.

It is alleged that the possibility of a pre-trial hearing to see if a plea bargain agreement can be agreed has not been ruled out.

The woman’s lawyer said earlier this year that he would ask for the case against his client to be “discontinued” because he “does not think a crime has been committed”.

According to reports, no date has been set for the hearing at this time.
