The majority of British children are now ‘afraid’ for the future of the planet | UK | News

The majority of children in Britain are worried about the climate crisis; 86% now fear for the future of the planet.

New research finds that 94% of kids believe everyone should live as green as possible, making smart tech like solar panels, electric vehicle chargers, smart thermostats and heat pumps officially cool.

According to research from eco-technology company Hive, children rate voice-controlled smart lights (43%), robot vacuums (41%), smart refrigerators (39%) and solar panels (29%) as the most desirable things to have at home.

With 92% of children learning about climate change, there is growing demand for toys, many of which teach them about the environment in a fun and accessible way on a regular basis.

Hive has brought the green house of the future to life through the Hive Playhouse, a miniature house equipped with tiny versions of the company’s real-world technology.

Its features include a small heat pump, mini solar panels, a pocket-sized EV charger, and a miniature smart thermostat.

Designed to help children see through play how environmentally friendly energy systems work, the toy also shows how small changes at home can help make a difference.

Hive Director Tom Pakenham says: “Our findings show a clear shift; children are not only worried about the climate, they also want to help fix it. With parents now saying their children influence their environmental choices, it’s clear that families are ready to embrace greener living.”

“Hive Playhouse brings this future to life in miniature, showing how small changes like smart heating or solar energy can make sustainability achievable.

“We want to help families take charge of their energy, make smarter choices, and help parents and kids explore ecological living in a fun and accessible way.”

The research also found that parents prioritize the environment, with nearly half of parents planning to invest in more ecological products next year. At the top of their wish lists are solar panels (35%), smart lighting (34%) and smart thermostats (34%).

Many have already taken this step; The most popular products include smart lighting (36%), smart thermostats (35%) and solar panels (34%). The investment also has financial benefits; 35% of families report saving £101-500 a year thanks to smart technology.
