Sneak-peek of royal first at Princess Kate’s Christmas concert | Royal | News

Kensington Palace has released a new series of photo illustrations from the Princess of Wales’s Christmas carol concert. Princess Catherine’s Christmas carol ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey on 5 December.

This year’s festival event featured an illustrator who painted snapshots of the magical atmosphere inside the Abbey in real time. Today the Palace revealed artist Caroline Tomlinson and shared a sneak peek of her work.

It was accompanied by the following message: “An artist’s take on this year’s ‘Together at Christmas’ Carol Service! [brush emoji] “Caroline Tomlinson.”

One sketch depicts the exterior of Westminster Abbey, while another shows members of the choir heading to take their seats.

Another shows musicians playing their instruments during the festive event, while the fourth shows an unidentified couple hugging each other, possibly watching the service.

Commenting on her experience at Princess Catherine’s Christmas event, Ms Tomilson said on Instagram: “I was given the freedom to wander around the Abbey for three hours, often standing next to BBC cameras and writing as the ceremony progressed.

“Just my sketchbooks and pencils, my bag quickly became one of my more stylish pencil cases.

“Working by candlelight was both surreal and exciting. I kept the drawings loose, trying to worry less about perfection and more about creating volume; I had the same mentality when working in my studio.”

He added: “It’s a real privilege to be part of such a beautiful and meaningful night.”

The Royal Carols: Together at Christmas special will air on Christmas Eve at 7.25pm on ITV and ITVX.
