Winter storm watch issued for New York, heavy snow expected: Here’s when
NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s office announced Wednesday that she is asking New Yorkers to be careful ahead of the snowfall expected to hit the state.
A winter storm watch will be in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Although New York City won’t see a White Christmas, those returning or traveling on Friday may want to change their plans.
Heavy snowfall is expected to hit New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut, with 4 to 8 inches forecast. Road conditions are expected to be slippery, with hazardous conditions even affecting traffic, the NWS wrote in a probabilistic weather forecast.
“New York is no stranger to snow and cold weather, and considering the Christmas holiday, it’s important to be extra prepared before heading out,” said Governor Hochul. “As always, I encourage New Yorkers to monitor local weather forecasts and text their town or county name to our weather and emergency alert system. Be careful, drive slowly if you must travel, and have a safe weekend.”
Those with travel commitments are encouraged to follow these safety tips.
