Kollam Vigilance Court to pronounce verdict on Unnikrishnan Potti’s bail today

The Kollam Vigilance Court will announce its verdict on Tuesday regarding the bail plea of ​​Unnikrishnan Potti, the prime accused in the case related to the theft of gold from the statues of the guardian deity (Dwarapalaka) in the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. The defense argued that the defendant was entitled to legal bail because charges were not filed within 90 days of arrest. Since the prosecution does not object, the court may decide to release Mr Potti on bail.

However, since Mr. Potti is also an accused in the case related to the theft of gold from the sanctum sanctorum door frame (Kattiappali), he will not be released from jail even if he is released on bail in the first case. There are still three weeks left before the 90-day period is completed in the second case, and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is trying to file at least an initial charge in the meantime.

Tantri’s custody

The court also heard SIT’s application seeking one-day custody of former Sabarimala administrative officer S. Sreekumar. He will be produced in court on Tuesday and will be handed over to SIT custody.The court will also hand over senior Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru for a day on January 22 following SIT’s custody application. The SIT had stated in the application that recording the statements of both Mr. Sreekumar and Tantri was vital to unravel the conspiracy. Tantri’s bail request will also be evaluated on the same day.
