Rogan defends Sen Fetterman from fellow Dems for voter ID stance

Podcaster Joe Rogan spoke with actress Cheryl Hines on Tuesday about the risks of flouting the rules, citing Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) as a prime example.

“Once you get in, for the most part, you have to adhere to the mindset of all the other people in your business. And if you don’t, you get cast as an outcast, just like John Fetterman. They hate that guy now. They’re mad at him because he says, ‘I think you have to have ID to vote,'” Rogan said.

Speaking earlier about the backlash she received from her husband, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennery Jr., Hines said: “I know. I love John Fetterman.”

“He’s great. He’s such a sweet guy,” Rogan said. “He’s a real person. In fact, this guy has actually worked for charities all his life.” For example, he really worked to do charity work and he loved real things. For example, he is not a greedy man. He walks around in his Carhartt hoodie and shorts.”

Rogan suggested that the Republican Party has the same problem with pressuring politicians when they break ranks on important issues.

“But the thing is, you have to comply with it, and if you don’t, you’re not allowed to have a different opinion,” Rogan said. “If you do that, you’ll be ostracized. You know, like Thomas Massie, you see the same thing with Republicans. You’ll be ostracized, as will anyone who has an opinion that doesn’t deviate from groupthink. They’ll call you a traitor. They’ll say terrible things about you.”

“There’s a lot of theater,” Hines agreed.

“There are a lot of them, and I think there are a lot of people who start out in this business with really good intentions,” Rogan said. “And then you see them slowly give up. Slowly they succumb to the weight of that position.”

Voter ID is a key issue that divides the two parties, as Democrats refuse to support the Protecting America’s Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require states to verify voter eligibility using proof of citizenship.

Republicans argue the law would strengthen election integrity, while Democrats say it would make it harder for people without photo ID to vote, going so far as to compare it to “Jim Crow-era” laws.

Fetterman said voter ID is not an “unreasonable” question and pointed to states with similar protections, such as Wisconsin.

“Ordinary Americans showing their ID to vote is not a radical idea,” said Fetterman, who also rejected Jim Crow comparisons.
