Winter weather advisory issued in Massachusetts. See potential snow totals

A winter weather advisory has been issued in Massachusetts System that brings snow, ice and rain to the region.

The advisory is in effect from noon Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday for parts of Berkshire, Franklin, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Hampshire and Hampden counties.

Snow showers are expected in the early afternoon before changing to rain and freezing rain this evening.

Up to 5 inches of snow is expected along the Massachusetts Turnpike near Boston and points north of it. Elevations may drop as low as 3 inches.

South of Boston will likely only see a fading layer of snow.

Central and northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire will have temperatures around freezing, potentially resulting in icy rides.

Up to a tenth of an inch of ice is expected north and west of Interstate 95.

“Plan for slippery road conditions. Hazardous conditions may impact commutes Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning,” the National Weather Service warned.
