Apple accuses India’s competition authority of overstepping its powers by forcing the US tech company to submit financial statements in an antitrust case related to the iPhone apps market, while Apple opposes the law imposing fines, documents show. The report, which Apple filed in an unpublic Indian court on April 24 and was reviewed by Reuters on Thursday, is the latest sign of a growing dispute between the company and Indian investigators over a case in which Apple says it could face a fine of up to $38 billion.
The Competition Commission of India has been seeking Apple’s financial information since 2024, usually required to calculate fines, after an investigation found Apple had abused its dominant position. Apple resisted, arguing that it had challenged India’s entire antitrust penalty calculation law in a New Delhi court and that the watchdog should wait.
