Light rain forecast for Mumbai, neighbouring districts on March 18-19

While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain for Mumbai and neighboring areas, a separate forecast suggests that parts of Maharashtra will experience mild summer conditions with high night temperatures for the next four to five days.

Light rain and thunderstorms are expected in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts on March 18 and 19. IMD has not issued a warning for these regions. A yellow alert has been issued for Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, where strong winds, lightning and light to moderate showers are possible.

IMD predicts moderate summer conditions for the rest of Maharashtra for the next four to five days. Some parts of Vidarbha may record temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius. The Konkan region, which includes Mumbai, is expected to remain hot and humid. A significant increase in day temperatures is not expected. However, night temperatures are expected to remain above normal, which could create health stress, officials said.

There have been three heat wave warnings in Mumbai and surrounding areas in the past two weeks. The maximum temperature in Mumbai on March 10 touched 40 degrees Celsius, a five-year high for the month. The first heatwave warning was issued between 4 and 5 March. A second warning classifying the weather as a severe heat wave was issued for 9 and 10 March. A third warning was issued on March 13.

Since that day, temperatures in the city have decreased. The evening temperature in the suburbs over the weekend was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius; This is below normal for this time of year.
