Boy, 16, dies after stabbing near shopping centre in Peterborough as murder probe launched | UK | News

A 16-year-old teenager was fatally stabbed in a city center in England over the weekend. Police were called just before 7pm on Sunday, April 12, to reports of a teenager being assaulted in Riseholme, near the Orton Centre. Emergency service teams, including medical teams, were dispatched to the scene and the child was taken to hospital.

However, Cambridgeshire Constabulary said the teenager sadly died later in the evening. Police detectives ruled the child’s death a homicide and arrested four people following the fatal stabbing. Two men from Peterborough, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of murder, the force said in a statement on April 13.

Police also said a 17-year-old girl from Peterborough was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and from March a 16-year-old girl was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and possession of a bladed article.

They are all in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.

While police continue their investigation, a police cordon has been established around the scene in Orton Centre.

Police warned that police presence in the area will increase in the coming day.

DCI Richard Stott, of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a young man and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated.

“While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack and there will be a significant police presence in the area over the coming days.

“I would urge anyone who believes they have information about this attack or who lives in the area and has security cameras at their home to contact the police.”
