Amanda Knox accused of ‘cashing in on Meredith Kercher’s memory’ as she poses for selfies at Tower Bridge – while publicising documentary a stone’s throw away from where murder victim was raised

Smiling as she basked in the spring sunshine, Amanda Knox was spotted in Britain for the first time as she roughed up the trailer for her film re-imagining the murder of Meredith Kercher.
A few hours after arriving, the American cheerfully posted photos with the caption: ‘Hello London!’ he declared. The tragic British student smiles near Tower Bridge, just a few miles from his family’s home.
Her visit is said to have left the Kercher family ‘speechless’, with their lawyers accusing Ms Knox of ‘cashing in on Meredith’s memory for the umpteenth time’.
The 38-year-old actor is in the capital to host two sold-out screenings of Mouth of the Wolf at Greenwich Picturehouse next week.
The film, directed by her husband Christopher Robinson, follows Kercher’s return to the scene of the crime in Perugia, the Italian city where she was brutally murdered in 2007.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Kercher family lawyer Francesco Maresca said: Ms. Knox was turning her wrongful conviction into an ever-expanding, lucrative enterprise.
He said his actions had repeatedly reopened old wounds, bringing the case back into the spotlight almost 20 years later, this time just a stone’s throw from where Meredith grew up in Coulsdon, south London.
The lawyer added that the Kercher family felt “enough is enough” and called on Ms Knox to “draw a line” under the case so she could preserve Meredith’s memory.

Since her recent acquittal, Ms Knox has rarely been in the spotlight to launch a lucrative career about her wrongful conviction
Mr Maresca told the Mail: “It seems to me and my family that every six months or so Knox engages in some other media venture, be it a podcast, interview, documentary or film.”
‘Honestly that’s enough, they really have more than is reasonable now, they and I don’t understand why he keeps doing things like this and can’t leave it alone.’
The lawyer said the family understood that Ms Knox wanted to visit the family and Meredith’s childhood home while she was in England, and that this was an ‘unsolicited’ request.
He continued: ‘Every time he speaks he retells the tragedy that happened to Meredith nearly 20 years ago and it really upsets the family; If Knox insists so much that he and Meredith were friends, why doesn’t he respect her memory and stay silent?’
Meredith, 21, was living with Ms Knox while studying abroad in Perugia and was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in her bedroom in November 2007.
Ms Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were found guilty of murder.
They remained in prison for nearly four years before being released on appeal in 2011, allowing Ms. Knox to return to her home in Seattle.
A further re-conviction followed in his absence in 2014, before Italy’s Supreme Court definitively acquitted him in March 2015, citing investigation failures.
Since her last acquittal, Ms. Knox has rarely been in the spotlight.
He wrote a best-selling memoir, launched a true crime podcast called Hard Knox, and even toured as a stand-up comedian making jokes about his conviction.
Last year, she executive produced the Hulu drama series Amanda Knox’s Twisted Tale, and now she’s promoting another documentary based on the same tragedy.
Her supporters insist Ms Knox, now a mother of two, is herself a victim, a woman who was wrongfully imprisoned and is now campaigning for justice reform.
But to critics, the red carpet launches, sun-soaked photos and cheerful “hello” invitations sit uneasily next to the grief of the family of a murdered young student.
The Kercher family has long expressed dismay that Meredith’s name continues to appear in Ms. Knox’s career.
“I think we know what’s behind this, it’s just another chance to make money,” Mr. Maresca said.
‘You have to ask yourself why? Raffaele Sollecito, the accomplice in all this, has quietly disappeared and you hear nothing from him. He doesn’t make books, movies or podcasts; Maybe he should do the same.
‘We don’t understand why you can’t close this chapter. It seems to us that he’s just fame-hungry and seeking notoriety – he’s really persistent.’
The lawyer said Kercher’s family had no intention of seeing Ms Knox while she was in the capital and would not comply with her express requests to see where Meredith lived.
‘Of course Knox can go wherever he wants in London and visit the tourist attractions, but as far as I understand, it goes without saying that he wants to see where Meredith grew up and lives and wants to talk to her family,’ he said.
‘The family have no intention of meeting her and just want her to keep quiet, this is a very sad chapter in their lives, Meredith’s parents are dead and only her brothers and sisters are left.
‘They want to keep Meredith’s memory to themselves and they want Knox to draw the line at all of this, and they’ve made that clear several times, but Knox doesn’t seem to accept it.’
He said Ms Knox’s latest attempt showed her desire to continue ‘monetising the memory of Meredith’.
‘As I said before, traveling around the world, visiting London, Perugia is welcome, except to say that Meredith wants to say where she grew up and visiting family is undesirable,’ he said.
He said Ms Knox had made no attempt to make any ‘respectful or sweet comment’ towards the Kercher family.
‘It’s really unnecessary and unnecessary, it’s not normal to take this long to make money.
‘Enough is enough, this is what the Kercher family thinks. They are speechless at the infinity of it all, and I can guarantee that in six months I will have to make the same comments again.
‘He keeps saying he wants to meet the family, but they’ve said no countless times and the answer will always be no, so there’s no point in insisting and using the family for publicity.’
