LIV Golf could leave a black hole in the Australian economy

Last week, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) unveiled its new 2026-2030 strategy, which does not include future funding for one of its crown jewels: the LIV Golf tour. The tour includes a stop in Adelaide, which has been one of the most successful tournaments on the calendar since 2023 and has a contract with the South Australian government until 2031.
The fledgling rival tour for the traditional pinnacle of men’s professional golf – the American PGA Tour – has spent an extraordinary amount of money on many of the world’s top golfers and divided the golf world in 2022.
