Former parliamentary staff member arrested under anti-hacking laws

A former parliamentary staffer was arrested last week under anti-hacking laws.
House of Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle announced the arrest while making a statement to MPs on Monday about a “security issue”.
Speaking at the start of work in the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay said the former employee had been detained under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
The law covers unauthorized access to computer materials; It includes intentions to commit or facilitate other crimes and unauthorized modification of computer material.
“I would like to make a brief statement regarding a matter of security,” said Sir Lindsay.
“The police have informed me that a former parliamentary staff member was arrested last week under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
“The police investigation is ongoing. As you know, we do not discuss the details of such issues in the Parliament.
“This is an ongoing criminal investigation. I do not intend to take any further orders in this matter. I will notify members when I am able to share more information.”
