The region will soon have a stronger community-based disaster response system, and approximately 250 young volunteers will receive focused training on disaster management basics to deal with emergencies, including natural disasters and accidents. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the operations of community rescue teams and also create a network of master trainers to guide preparedness efforts in the respective villages.

The training program, which was inaugurated by Deputy Collector (Disaster Management) S. Sajid at Kozhikode Youth Hostel on Monday, April 20, 2026, is organized under the Yuva Aapda Mitra project jointly implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS). The first group of NYKS volunteers will be trained until April 26.

According to District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) officials, the camp has been designed as a seven-day accommodation-free program for the convenience of participants and trainers. Sessions will be led by subject matter experts including the District Hazard Analyst and Disaster Management Plan Coordinator (Local Self-Government department).
