Keir Starmer branded ‘Jew harmer’ as fury unleashed after Golders Green knife rampage | Politics | News

Hundreds of angry protesters marched in Golders Green on Wednesday evening, branding Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer a “Jewish predator” after two Jewish men were stabbed in the north London suburb. At least 150 demonstrators went to Golders Green Road, waving Israeli and Union flags and chanting “Keir Starmer, harming Jews”, “Long live Israel” and “No to Jew hatred” through a megaphone.

Some also directed criticism at London Mayor Sadiq Khan, shouting: “IRGC terrorists, the UK put them on the list.” Telegram. The police who arrived at the scene encountered the intervention of the crowd. The protest broke out hours after a morning stabbing near a synagogue on Golders Green Road. Two Jewish men, one 76 years old and the other 34 years old, were seriously injured when a man with a knife targeted Jews in the public.

Jewish community security group Shomrim intervened and helped detain the suspect before armed police arrived and tasered him. The Metropolitan Police declared the incident a terrorist attack and confirmed counter-terrorism officers were investigating.

Both victims received emergency treatment at Hatzola, the Jewish volunteer ambulance service, and were taken to hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. The 45-year-old suspect, who has a history of serious violence and mental health issues, is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.

The demonstration reflected deep frustration in Golders Green’s large Orthodox Jewish community at the government’s failure to adequately protect them at a time when antisemitic incidents are on the rise. The stabbing followed a series of recent arson attacks on Jewish targets in north London, including Hatzola ambulances.

Dear Keir was condemned He described the attack as “utterly appalling” and an act of anti-Semitic terrorism. He chaired an emergency COBRA meeting and said attacks on the Jewish community are attacks on Britain as a whole and later vowed to tackle the “root causes of extremism and antisemitism” and announced plans to meet criminal justice agencies to ensure swift justice. He added that his thoughts were with the victims and praised the response of Shomrim and emergency services.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has previously noted a “serious” increase in threats to the UK Jewish community from Iran and hostile states, but it is too early to determine any specific links in this case.

Community figures and protesters expressed outrage that Jewish areas continue to be subjected to repeated violence despite repeated assurances from the government. The chants were directly aimed at Starmer, accusing him of taking inadequate action to protect society.

The incident has intensified concerns about the safety of Britain’s Jewish population, which has reported record levels of antisemitic abuse and attacks in recent years, particularly since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent conflict in Gaza. Golders Green, home to a significant Haredi and Orthodox Jewish population, has become a focal point for such tensions.

While investigations into the attacker’s background and possible ideological or international links continue, the visible anger on the streets of Golders Green underlines the community’s demand for stronger protections and decisive government action against rising extremism.
