Teen fled scene after killing great-grandmother in e-bike crash | News

A teenager who fled the scene after fatally striking his great-grandmother has been jailed.
Footage released by Northumbria Police shows Billy Stokoe, then 18, leaving the scene after hitting 86-year-old Gloria Stephenson with her e-bike at a pedestrian crossing in Sunderland in May 2025.
Dashcam footage showed Ms Stephenson, who was walking her daughter’s dog and trying to complete her 10,000 steps a day, did not slow down or try to escape when she was fatally struck.
Additional footage shows Stokoe speaking to police after turning himself in at the police station. I asked the police officer, “Is he dead?” he asked.
On Friday, May 15, the 19-year-old was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.
