BJP Leader Gajjala Yoganand Arrested in Alleged ₹24.53 Cr NRI Scam
Cyberabad economic offenses wing (EOW) police have registered a case against businessman and Hyderabad-based BJP leader Gajjala Yoganand following allegations of cheating, criminal breach of trust and intimidation involving alleged investment fraud of Rs 24.53 crore. Yoganand had unsuccessfully contested the 2023 Assembly elections from Serilingampally constituency on the request of the BJP.
According to the FIR, the complainant Pavan Kumar Nallamala, a 54-year-old businessman and NRI residing in the United States, alleged that he was persuaded to invest huge amounts in Yoganand’s business ventures between 2019 and 2024 after securing partnership and company shares in Manjeera Hotels & Resorts Pvt Ltd and related firms.
The complainant had known Yoganand since 2014 through business interactions. During a visit to India in 2019, Yoganand allegedly persuaded her to invest in hospitality businesses by claiming to run reputed companies and promising profitable returns. Believing these assurances, the complainant reportedly transferred Rs 24.53 crore through RTGS and NEFT to multiple accounts allegedly maintained by Yoganand.
The complainant claimed that he was not made a partner and was not allocated shares despite repeated requests. It was claimed that he later learned that the shares were mortgaged and no transfer process had been initiated. Following continuous follow-up, a Memorandum of Understanding was reportedly signed in November 2024, acknowledging receipt of the investment amount and committing to share allocation and partnership formalities.
However, the complainant alleged that Yoganand continued to delay the process and did not provide evidence of the share transfer or applications made to the Registrar of Companies. He alleged that in February 2026, Yoganand tried to force him to sign a new, undated MoU with amended terms and threatened him when he refused. Based on the complaint, EOW Cyberabad police registered a case.
