BJP-led NDA governs 80 per cent of India, Congress wiped out in Gujarat local polls: Amit Shah

Addressing a meeting after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for projects worth Rs 620 crore for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, he said the Congress was “wiped out” in the local body elections in Gujarat. AAP “could not even open an account,” he said.

Shah said the BJP’s “unstoppable development journey” in Gujarat started under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was later taken forward by former chief ministers Anandiben Patel and Vijay Rupani and current CM Bhupendra Patel.
“As a result of this pro-development approach of the BJP, the Congress was completely wiped out in the last local elections. Even if we look far away with binoculars, the Congress is nowhere to be seen,” Shah said.
“And the AAP members who said ‘we will win this, we will win that’ were destroyed in Delhi, they could not even open an account here,” he added.
Shah praised the BJP workers for maintaining close contact with people and solving their problems, saying this has strengthened people’s confidence in the party. Recalling the period of COVID-19 pandemic, Shah said that BJP workers in Gujarat served the people selflessly.
“Somewhere they distributed food kits to the poor, somewhere they took the homeless to hospitals, somewhere they organized testing, somewhere BJP workers managed the vaccination queues without taking their own vaccines,” he said.

He attributed the success of the BJP in the recently held local elections to the service-oriented approach of the party workers.
“We won all the municipal corporations where elections were held. Out of 84 municipalities, BJP won 77. Elections were held in 34 districts, of which BJP won 33. And out of 260 taluka panchayats, BJP won 253,” he said.
Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shah mocked the party’s prospects in Gujarat.
“Rahul Gandhi was organizing a workers’ convention here and was saying ‘agli baari Congress ki’ (It’s Congress’ turn). He should understand that he has no chance for the next seven lives,” he said.
Speaking about the recent assembly elections in West Bengal, Shah said that the BJP received an overwhelming mandate.
“Before the vote, people asked what the final result would be and I was confident that we would win. But the people gave us more than we expected, gave us 207 seats and put a huge responsibility on the BJP,” he said.
Drawing a comparison between Gujarat and Bengal, Shah claimed that the eastern state was suffering due to decades of misrule.
“Maybe if someone had filmed Gujarat in 1964 and compared it with today’s Bengal… Gujarat of 1964 would have scored two points higher,” he said.
Shah said, “There has been no development activity for 50 years. Whether you wanted to buy lamps, fans, bricks or cement, the ruling party had a commission for everything. If a poor person brought a fan by train from a neighboring state, they would stop at the train station to collect his tax.”

The Union minister said those who call themselves the guardians of democracy have put such a large and once prosperous state “in this situation”.
“Tired of 50 years of misrule, the people of West Bengal wholeheartedly blessed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and helped us form the government,” he said.
Shah said the BJP’s political expansion across the country is a reflection of its growing public support.
“If we look at the map of India today, Mother Ganga originates from Uttarakhand and merges into the sea at Gangasagar in Bengal. Starting from Uttarakhand, through UP and Bihar to Bengal, the BJP is in power everywhere,” he said.
Shah said that just as the Congress came to power across the country after Independence under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi, the BJP is also moving in the same direction today.
“Today, the BJP and the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) rule 80 percent of the country’s territory. At the Centre, Narendrabhai Modi became the prime minister for the third consecutive time and the NDA government was formed,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Shah attended many events.
Addressing a meeting after the inauguration of Ganesh Housing’s ‘Million Minds Tech Park’ in Ahmedabad, he said Gujarat now needs to elevate itself to the top position in the services sector after performing exceptionally well in key segments such as manufacturing, engineering and green energy.
He suggested the creation of a separate vertical at the National Institute of Design in Gandhinagar that would connect designers with commercial opportunities, drawing parallels with the transformation that the IPL has brought in cricket.
He also inaugurated a milk processing and packaging plant of Madhur Dairy in Gandhinagar district and said that the massive growth of the sector has brought about a profound transformation in the lives of women.
