US Extends Sanctions Waiver for Russian Oil Already at Sea

Washington: According to the official statement, the USA extended the exemption from sanctions on Russian oil currently at sea by one month. The U.S. Treasury Department on Monday issued an order extending sanctions relief for Russian oil stranded at sea from April 17 to June 17.
In the order published by the Department of Foreign Assets Control of the Ministry of Treasury, “Effective as of May 18, 2026, General License No. 134B, dated April 17, 2026 and expiring on May 16, 2026, has been completely replaced and repealed by this General License No. 134C.” It was said.
Previously, the USA granted India exemption from sanctions for one month, starting from March 5, due to the purchase of Russian oil. A few days later, a similar exemption was extended to many other countries and expired on April 11.
The general license, which exempts India and other countries from sanctions on offshore purchases of Russian oil, was extended by a month on April 17.
The general license issued by the United States on Monday does not allow any transaction involving a person, entity or joint venture located in Iran, North Korea, Cuba or parts of Ukraine.
