Top Gun Killed: Maverick actor James Handy’s girlfriend claimed her son was schizophrenic and stopped taking his medication before killing his wife.
Wendy Gledhill, 76, spoke out 48 hours after her son Michael was said to have stabbed Handy, 81, to death outside his home in Tarzana, California.
He explained that his 44-year-old son had mental health problems and was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but had stopped taking his medications.
‘[Handy’s family] Know that I love him very much. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry this happened. I’m still in shock. “I still don’t understand,” he said. TMZ.
Gledhill had a big shock on Friday and said: California Post‘I loved James and my son.
‘I still can’t believe it… I can’t believe my son did this. I’m just… Trying to get through each day, each minute.’
Handy was fatally stabbed in his home Wednesday morning and was found dead in a pool of blood in the front yard.

Security cameras at the scene captured suspect Michael Gledhill casually walking past the suburban home before he was seen returning with police.
It was announced that the master actor, who also starred in Jumanji and The X Files, was taken to the hospital and died there.
Michael Gledhill is said to have waved to Los Angeles Police Department officers after the murder and said: ‘I am a human being. ‘I just killed the man who sinned.’
He has since been taken into custody and is expected to appear in court later Friday.
Police have not yet shared the possible cause of the murder.
Authorities allege that Michael, who lived at the home with his mother and Handy, called 911 around 9:30 a.m. to alert police to the horror.
Security footage obtained by Fox 11 Los Angeles from a home next door showed Gledhill teetering on the sidewalk as bloody clothing lay nearby.
The suspect returned to the home a short time later, at which point police said he flagged down responding officers and told them he was the person they were looking for.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, but neighbors claimed Gledhill and Handy had been arguing throughout the night.

A resident also told Fox 11 that he believes Gledhill was experiencing delusions before Wednesday’s attack.
Handy was born in New York and made his big screen debut in ABC’s Ryan’s Hope in 1977, the same year he also starred in the movie Taps.
He had nearly 150 films and television credits to his name, most recently appearing as bartender Jimmy in Top Gun: Maverick.
Handy’s other film credits include his role as the doctor who treats Hugh Jackman’s main character in Logan. He played the destroyer Handy in the 1995 hit Jumanji.
The actor also had recurring roles on series such as NYPD Blue, where he played Captain Haverhill; He starred in Alias as Arthur Devlin and Profile as Lou Handleman.
Handy has also appeared on numerous other television shows, including The West Wing, Castle, and The X-Files.
“It is with great sadness that I can confirm that the gentleman who was attacked and killed in Tarzana on Wednesday was actor James Handy,” talent manager Pam Ellis-Evenas said in a statement.
