J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday, June 8, 2026, sought the support of INDIA bloc members for efforts to restore the State and constitutional rights.
National Conference (NC) spokesperson said Mr. Abdullah, who attended the bloc’s meeting in Delhi, asked all the participants to join his party’s efforts and take part in the protest march to be held in the national capital on the first day of the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament. The CM will write to each of the INDIA block leaders in this regard, the spokesperson said.

J&K was downgraded to a Union Territory in 2019 and its special status was revoked. The Supreme Court had called for early restoration of the State after the Assembly elections held in 2024 and won by the NC.

“If Mr. Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti [of the Peoples Democratic Party] If we manage to persuade the INDIA bloc to issue a joint statement supporting the restoration of special constitutional status, statehood and other political rights of Jammu and Kashmir, it will be an important step,” said Awami Ittehad Party leader and legislator Sheikh Khursheed.
