Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee appeared before the Enforcement Directorate in Kolkata on Monday, June 15, 2026, in connection with the alleged school affairs scam case, an official said.

This came a day after TMC MLAs were questioned by the West Bengal CID for allegedly forging documents related to the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly.

The officer said Mr. Banerjee reached the ED’s CGO Complex office here around 11 am following a summons issued as part of a money laundering probe linked to irregularities in the recruitment of primary school teachers.

A senior ED official said investigators will record Mr. Banerjee’s statement and confront him with financial documents, digital records and statements of other accused to trace the alleged proceeds of crime.

“Our focus is on tracing the money. Who managed the funds, how they moved between accounts and assets, and whether these transactions were layered to hide their origins,” the officer said.

He also said the agency would seek clarification on “observed inconsistencies between previous applications and new materials seized during searches.”

The inquiry will also cover the role of intermediaries and beneficiary organizations flagged during forensic analysis.

“We have obtained bank records and contact data showing that multiple fronts were involved. Today’s review aims to reconcile these data points with Banerjee’s version,” he said.
