As part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing operational deployment, locally designed and built warships INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti arrived at Nha Rong Port in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, June 22, 2026, marking a significant milestone in India-Vietnam maritime relations.

INS Udaygiri, a stealth frigate, and INS Kavaratti, an anti-submarine warfare corvette, are part of the Eastern Fleet and are commanded by Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Fleet.

The Indian Navy reported that the ships were ceremonially welcomed by Vietnam People’s Navy personnel, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and port officials. The warm welcome underlined the long-standing friendship between the two countries and the growing maritime partnership between their navies.

It was also stated that during the port visit, personnel of the Indian Navy and Vietnam People’s Navy will engage in a series of professional interactions, including inter-deck visits, sporting events and community outreach programmes.

High-level meetings are also planned to facilitate discussions on maritime security and strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation.

The visit holds further significance as it marks the first major presence of the Indian Navy in Vietnam since India and Vietnam upgraded their bilateral relations to Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2026.

The deployment reflects India’s ongoing commitment to deepen defense and maritime cooperation with Vietnam and enhance stability, security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
