England v Mexico: Pubs and police brace for 1am kick-off after Fifa U-turn

It’s a rarity for pubs in the UK to be allowed to stay open until the early hours of Monday morning, and football fans are expected to make the most of it.
Sir Keir described the move as “good news for supporters and good news for the pubs and venues that bring our communities together”.
UKHospitality President Kate Nicholls said this was a “very welcome announcement”.
However, many bars that have had to apply for extended license hours to sell alcohol are now planning to change their opening hours.
Pub chain Greene King said more than 600 pubs across the UK would stay open late to show the match
But not all bars plan to keep their taps flowing.
Wetherspoons said only five of its more than 800 pubs would remain open for the match, but other major chains, including Greene King, will make the most of the change in their latest bar call.
Claudia Carrozi, President of the UK Bartenders Guild (UKBG), told the BBC that hospitality staff working until 5am on Monday should be given advance notice, given appropriate breaks and consideration given to how they will return home.
“Planning is very important,” he said.
Although bars have only been preparing since Thursday (and last night’s mixed messages about start times no doubt confused people) Corrozi said bars may already have a “contingency plan.”
He said it was important for customers to remember that people working in bars during matches were “going above and beyond” and should be treated with respect.
“Without the staff, this celebration would not have happened.”
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) told the BBC the “late announcement” meant officers were distracted from other duties and worked longer hours, as more people remained out late on Sunday night.
Fans were asked to “drink within reasonable limits” and be “considerate” while watching the game.
