Syed Hakim Raza, president of the Indo-Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said around 100 people from Karnataka, mostly residents of Alipura of Chikkaballapur district, are currently attending the funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran.
It can be noted that the village of Alipura has a close relationship with Khamenei, as he has visited this village before.
Mr. Hakim Raza said some of these Kannadigas are already in Iran as students of religious institutions, medical students, medical professionals or business students, while others flew to the Iranian capital from Bengaluru via Mumbai on an Iran Airlines chartered flight on Sunday. Hindu.
Iran’s former Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli air strike on February 28. His daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and 14-month-old grandson were also martyred along with him.
According to Mr Justice Raza, Iran achieved a ceasefire in April and the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June is proof that the country is stable enough to host the funeral and representatives from more than 100 countries, including India, attending the funeral.
Alipura resident Faizan Raza said, “He (Khamanei) was loved more than our father; this martyrdom shook our hearts and souls. It is essential to attend the farewell. So I set out from Alipura.”
Mr Justice Raza also said that the 40-day mourning period and week-long public holiday reflected the view that this tragedy was not just a private family loss but a collective national wound that combined personal pain with national resolve.

Regarding Iran’s policy regarding the Strait of Hormuz, he stated that Iran’s policy has long been to keep the Strait of Hormuz open under normal conditions and is aware of its vital importance for friendly countries, including India, whose energy security largely depends on these waters.
“From this perspective, past references to closing the strait have been framed as a strategic deterrent against external aggression, not as a threat to friendly countries or international trade,” he added.
Mr Justice Razafurther said the participation of the Indian Political Delegation in the funeral was presented as a confirmation that ties between Iran and India continued despite rising tensions in the region.
