UK to spearhead Europe project to build long-range missiles for NATO as WW3 fears explode | World | News

Britain is preparing to lead a major European military coalition to build a devastating new class of long-range missiles as fears of a new all-out war reach boiling point. This explosive move will put Britain in the driver’s seat of a brand new “Deep Precision Strike Coalition” aimed at eliminating Europe’s complete dependence on US weapons.
The pan-European project is expected to be officially announced on the sidelines of this week’s high-stakes NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye. This comes as European leaders seek to fill major security gaps left behind. Donald TrumpThe decision to withdraw US forces and capabilities from the continent. Fears rose across Europe after Mr Trump canceled a Biden-era plan to deploy a battalion of American Tomahawk cruise missiles to Germany, intended to act as a vital shield capable of hitting targets deep inside Russia to deter Vladimir Putin’s aggression. Now the UK is moving to lead the response.
According to The Telegraph, England will lead the coalition along with Germany, Ukraine, France and the Netherlands. While definitive plans are still being finalized, the project will focus on “deep precision strike” weapons. These devastatingly accurate missiles will have a range of 621 to 1,864 miles; that’s far enough to destroy enemy bombers on their runways or destroy military production facilities before they can launch an attack on the West.
Sources familiar with the discussions underlined the urgent need for the continent’s independent defense shield and warned that it could take decades for any European missile to be implemented.
The Ankara summit begins amid intense friction between Washington and its European allies. As the Pentagon turns its attention to the Indo-Pacific, Mr. Trump is relentlessly pushing European countries to take responsibility for their own conventional defenses.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed to reporters that the pressure campaign was working, saying Mr Trump’s aggressive stance had “helped a lot” to bring urgency to European defense departments. NATO allies have agreed on a massive new defense spending target of 5% of GDP, with 3.5% allocated to core defense and 1.5% to security infrastructure.
To meet these urgent security demands, European allies and Canada are preparing to invest around €258bn (£222bn) in defence. NATO leaders are also expected to pledge an eye-watering €70bn (£60bn) military aid package to support Ukraine in 2026 and 2027.
It comes as tensions have reached a terrifying breaking point following a scare threat from a senior Kremlin adviser who warned European nations could be “pulverized” by a single 7.5-megaton Russian missile. Sergei Karaganov, one of Putin’s influential nuclear advisors known as the ‘Doomsday Professor’, has demanded that Russia change its military doctrine to make the use of atomic weapons a mandatory obligation if a Western state declares war on it.
Directly targeting countries supporting Kiev, Karaganov warned that any conflict would lead to the utter destruction of these countries, declaring that Germany “must cease to exist” if it tried to build the most powerful army, while branding Finland’s decision to allow NATO nuclear weapons on its territory “tantamount to suicide”.
