Tamil Nadu Governor appeals for public participation in self-enumeration for Census

As the 2027 Census process begins in Tamil Nadu on Friday, July 17, 2026, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to participate in the self-census.

In a statement, he requested the public to register for the self-count phase, which will be conducted in the first phase of the two-phase census in Tamil Nadu.
“The Census in Tamil Nadu will be conducted in two phases. The Self-Count phase will be conducted between July 17, 2026 to July 31, 2026, followed by House Listing Operations from August 1, 2026 to August 30, 2026. For the first time in the history of Indian Census, citizens have been provided with the facility of Self-Census through a secure system.” online portal and the mobile app allows households to conveniently submit their Census information online. “All the people of Tamil Nadu are making full use of this facility and completing their Personal Enumeration within the notified time,” he said.
He also called on every household to provide complete and accurate information and fully cooperate with Census officials for the successful conduct of the 2027 Census.
