World Cup 2026: Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe in last eight

Norway v England, Miami Stadium, Saturday 22:00 BST
Things to consider: Norway’s goal machine Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in four World Cup matches and was at his clinical best when he scored twice to eliminate five-time winners Brazil in the last 16.
The Manchester City striker has 62 goals in 54 international appearances; an average of one goal every 71 minutes. In addition, the player broke the record of scoring goals in 14 consecutive matches for his country and scored 27 goals during this period.
However, just one goal behind Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot is England captain Harry Kane, who won a World Cup classic with his penalty against Mexico.
The 32-year-old Bayern Munich forward has scored more goals (73) for club and country than anyone else in European football in 2025-26 and has continued that form in North America.
He is England’s all-time top scorer in World Cups with 14 goals and looks fit to achieve more in this quarter-final.
Key statistics: England will make their 11th World Cup quarter-final appearance and have the third highest number of points behind Brazil and Germany (both on 14). However, England could only win three matches at this stage.
By contrast, Norway has only qualified for four World Cups and this is the first time they have reached the quarter-finals of a major tournament. They’ve done it the hard way, scoring and conceding goals in every match they’ve played so far. Only West Germany had reached the semi-finals of the World Cup with such a record in 1954.
