Former milkman from Rotherham wins £4m mansion in prize draw

A former milkman says he can’t believe his luck after winning a £4million mansion and £250,000 in prize draw cash.

David Roper, 58, from Rotherham, found out after a busy week at work that he had won the six-bedroom house in Surrey, complete with outdoor heated pool and tennis court.

He said he was busy “thinking about going to the pub at 5pm and having a cold pint of Guinness” when he got the call saying he had won the house in the Omaze raffle.

“I wasn’t sure I wasn’t imagining the whole thing, it felt so surreal I couldn’t even believe it myself,” said Roper, who admitted that his new home was “pretty much better” than his current bungalow.

Roper, who lives with his wife Janny, 44, and four-year-old border collie Rosie, said: “I’ve never won anything in my life before. I think that’s what I was saving it all for.”

He was so incredulous that he didn’t even buy the other patrons a drink, but he ended up arriving at the bar four hours later than planned.

“I’m definitely going to take it for a spin now, I’ve seen this place myself and I know it’s 100% real,” he said.
