Politics LIVE: Andy Burnham set to launch ‘£38bn’ tax raid | Politics | News

Andy Burnham is set to launch a £38 billion tax raid to fund his spending spree, according to Reform UK analysis. The report said the future prime minister’s promises would mean Labour’s total level of tax increases would rise from around £66bn a year to more than £100bn.
This includes reforming capital gains tax rates and applying National Insurance to rental income.
Robert Jenrick, Reform’s Treasury spokesman, told The Telegraph: “Andy Burnham has spent 20 years trying to get at other people’s money – a death tax on family homes, a graduate tax on young people getting their first paycheck, a £14bn raid on savings and investment and new taxes on everything from your parking space at work to your weekend break.
“Taken together with Rachel Reeves’ record, Labor could deliver tax increases of more than £100bn a year. If Mr Burnham opposes this, the solution is simple: nominally exclude these 10 taxes today.”
Little is known about the policies of Mr Burnham, who is set to enter No. 10 Downing Street in a matter of weeks.
