Elliot Anderson transfer: Man City seal £116m deal for England and Forest midfielder

Anderson, who joined Forest from Newcastle United for £35 million in 2024, became an integral player as the club finished seventh in the Premier League and qualified for Europe for the first time in 30 years.

Last season, Anderson helped Forest reach the Europa League semi-finals and lead the Premier League in terms of touches and duels won.

He has also become a key feature of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, featuring in every match at the World Cup.

City agreed to pay a club record fee for Anderson, surpassing the £100 million spent on Jack Grealish in 2021, fending off competition from Manchester United.

Talks about Anderson’s future continued during the World Cup and an agreement was reached between Forest and City on the eve of England’s Group L match against Panama.

He will join the team led by former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who joined the team in June after Pep Guardiola left his role as City manager after 10 years in charge.

City director of football Hugo Viana described Anderson as “one of the world’s outstanding young midfield talents”.

“He brings energy, outstanding work rate and outstanding passing range. His development in recent years is truly impressive and underlines his desire to be the best player he can be,” Viana said.

“At only 23 years old, there are plenty of opportunities to improve in the coming years and we think he can become a complete midfielder.”
