A dog accidentally turned on a toaster at a Maryland home, sparking a fire and killing three other pets in the home, according to authorities.

Fire crews responded to a single-family residential fire at a home at 4319 Foxglove Court in Belcamp shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Abingdon Fire Company.

Teams took the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

Fire officials said the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire and no one was hurt, Fox 45 reported.

Neighbors rescued two dogs from the house, but a third dog and two cats died in the fire, the news outlet reported.

The family’s bearded dragon was later found alive and survived after a 24-hour stay in intensive care.

Fire officials said the fire started in the kitchen and then spread to other parts of the house.

It was determined that one of the family’s dogs jumped onto the kitchen counter and accidentally started the toaster, igniting nearby flammable materials. The dog that operated the toaster was one of two dogs rescued by neighbors.

According to Fox 45, the fire was recorded on a Ring home security camera; That footage showed the dog jumping on the counter and clawing at items, helping state fire marshals pinpoint the origin of the fire.

The house suffered major damage due to fire, soot, smoke and water.
