Johnson scores win as conservative rebels end House floor blockade over voter ID bill

House conservatives delivered the Speaker on Tuesday, ending a weeks-long blockade of the House of Representatives. Mike Johnson, R-La., a key victory following the insurrection, brought legislative business to a halt for nearly a month.

The parliament successfully passed the procedural vote 215-211, gathering votes on an appropriations bill providing funds for the Department of State, enacting legislation. daylight saving time is permanent and a measure aimed at improving veterans’ benefits.

Johnson also agreed to match the State Department funding bill with the US. SAVE America Act, This caused many conservatives to change their votes after demanding that the House of Representatives increase pressure on the Senate to pass the stalled measure.

Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., was the only Republican to oppose the rule, while all Democrats voted “no” during a procedural vote along party lines.

The Speaker is under increasing pressure for the House to act again and advance backlogged legislation ahead of November midterm elections.

GOP leaders are racing to draft a third “big, beautiful bill” to clear government funding bills before the Sept. 30 deadline and a potential supplemental package covering the price tag of the Iran war.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), who was among the GOP insurgents who effectively shut down the chamber to pressure the Senate to pass the RELIEVE America Act, agreed to unlock the floor after Johnson suggested pairing the ballot measure with the State Department appropriations bill.

Johnson tried to insert the Save America Act into the House’s version of the annual defense policy bill before the July 4 recess, but Luna continued the blockade anyway.

“If John Thune “If he introduces this in the Senate it will be his responsibility and the whole country should be watching what he does,” Luna wrote on social media Monday.

Powered by Thune SAVE America Act, He has repeatedly insisted that he does not have the votes in the upper chamber to pass the Trump-backed legislation, despite united opposition from Democrats.

This leaves House Republicans with little leverage to force the Senate to act on the RELIEVE America Act.

Some GOP holdouts had threatened to challenge the rule unless House Republican leadership agreed to schedule a vote on the border security package.

Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus are advocating for a vote on the Permanent Trump Secure Border Act, which would codify various Trump executive orders targeting illegal immigration, including catch-and-release policies.

“We need to codify border security and deal with the issue of birthright citizenship,” said Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas. “These are all issues that the people I represent care about carefully, that we have talked about doing, and that we must deliver on.”

In a potential sign of trouble for GOP leadership, some objections criticized Johnson’s planned legislative goals for the week.

“Without election integrity, making Daylight Savings Time permanent won’t matter,” Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, wrote on social media Monday, referencing the SAVE America Act. “Priorities.”

Öz voted “yes” during the procedural vote.

The GOP insurgents’ heavy-handed tactics have frustrated many House Republicans, who argue the strategy risks backfiring and paralyzing the conference’s legislative agenda.

“There’s a small group of Republicans who are upset with the Senate, I think we all are,” Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., told Fox News on Monday. “But I don’t know how… If you’re angry with the Senate, why are you bringing this to the agenda of conservative Republicans in the House?”

But some conservatives argued that the House should do whatever it takes to get the RELIEVE America Act to President Donald Trump’s desk.

Trump has repeatedly said the election integrity measure is his responsibility legislative priority. Last week, he even refused to sign a bipartisan housing bill aimed at increasing supply and lowering costs in protest of the SAVE America Act.

“We should not vote for anything else unless there is a SAVE option” [America] Take action, period,” Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., said Monday.

“Ideally, the Senate should take this issue every day and vote on them, give them a filibuster speech and keep them up all night,” he continued. “That’s the best course of action. I don’t think they’re going to do that.”
